School Year Calendars

Please see below for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school year calendars.

These calendars include all statutory holidays, school breaks and closures, re-opening days and professional development days for each school year.

  • In 91福利社, professional development days (often called Pro-D Days) are designated as Non-Instructional Days, allowing educators to participate in a range of professional learning activities that help them stay current with new teaching methods, technologies, and educational research. By engaging in professional development, teachers, administrators, and support staff acquire new skills and knowledge that help them support and impact student learning.  Common activities may include:

    Workshops and Conferences

Teachers often attend workshops or conferences that focus on specific subject areas or teaching methods.  For example:

    • Literacy and Numeracy Education – Techniques for improving literacy and numeracy instruction in schools
    • Culturally Responsive Pedagogy – Teaching strategies that respect and value the cultural backgrounds of all students
    • Anti-Racist Education – Approaches for creating inclusive and equitable classroom environments

    Collaborating and Networking

Professional development provides educators with opportunities to collaborate and network with their peers.  For example:

    • Collaborative Learning Communities – Groups of teachers working together to share strategies and solve common challenges
    • Mentoring – Experienced teachers mentoring new teachers to help them develop their teaching practices
    • Professional Inquiry – Department staff exploring the effectiveness of different strategies on student learning by collecting data to determine which methods work best

    Staying Current with Educational Technology

Educators learn how to effectively integrate technology in the classroom to enhance students’ learning experiences.  For example:

    • Interactive Simulations – Learning how generative AI can create complex simulations that allow students to interact with content in dynamic ways
    • Assistive Technologies – Learning how AI-powered tools can help students with diverse abilities and disabilities access and engage with educational content more easily
    • Language Learning – Learning how AI can simulate conversations in different languages, helping students practice their speaking and listening skills.

Overall, professional development is essential for educators to continuously improve their teaching practices and enhance student learning. The examples provided illustrate the diverse ways teachers can engage in professional growth, but they are not an exhaustive list.  To ensure they meet the evolving needs of their students, Surrey educators participate in many other opportunities that support their ongoing learning journey.
